What happens when someone close to you hurts you in any way? You feel sad, you feel angry, you want to lash back, you wish to hurl abuse, and on and on? But, it is most likely that you will just keep quiet and let the effect of hurt subside, in your heart. Why? The answer is simple because you love that person, you don't want to hurt him back.
Now, imagine a situation when someone who is not close to your heart, says something hurting. You immediately retort. Why? Because you don't care for the person.
But, did you ever thought that with hurt comes resentment. Thus, if you will not react and not let the other person know that you are not liking something, in all prospects, the person will continue to hurt you. Of course, he is oblivious of the fact that certain behaviour of his is causing you pain. Slowly, you will start drifting away from this person and your relationship may get sour.
So, how can you manage hurts? Well, the best thing is to confront the person but do so in a relaxed atmosphere, when you are calm and poised. Talk to the person, tell him what you don't like and why you don't like it. If that person really care for you, he'll understand and will amend his behaviour. Also, you can get to know his point of view as well. Maybe he never intended to hurt you and you may have taken it in a wrong stride. Whatever be the reason, whatever be the solution - you will make your relationship stronger which can stand the vagaries of time. So next time somebody hurls a hurt or abuse, you know what to do.
